On Friday 20 Sept. the Minister for Ports and Regional Development, the Hon Alannah MacTiernan MP, formally announced State Government approval of the new floating wharf facility at the Broome Port, together with the development of the Kimberley Marine Supply Base.
Broome Future Alliance welcomes this $110m infrastructure investment announcement and the growth opportunities that it offers for Broome and the West Kimberley region.
This exciting infrastructure development will be a key catalyst to positioning Broome as the service hub for the oil and gas industry, whist also creating opportunities across other sectors, such as minerals/resources and agriculture, including aquaculture.
It will also be a fantastic opportunity to increase our cruise tourist traffic numbers which will afford growth prospects for the tourism sector and benefits for local retailers and the hospitality sector.
With 250 jobs during construction and 510 permanent jobs when in operation (2022) this is indeed great news for Broome and the West Kimberley region.
Whilst there are still some approval processes to be completed, Broome Future Alliance is confident these will be successfully concluded. Broome Future Alliance partners will now liaise with the KMSB Pty Ltd and the Kimberley Ports Authority to provide on the ground assistance in identifying and, facilitating the readiness of, all infrastructure elements required to support the project through to completion and beyond.
